Our approach and style

BTB is a highly specialized psychology practice committed to maximizing the developmental, social, emotional, behavioral, and academic potential of children, adolescents, and families. Whether it is sharing tips and tricks to tame those tantrums or developing an action plan for your adolescent’s school success, BTB was created to provide and guide parents through an action plan that is tailored to their child’s needs. At BTB our philosophy is to meet you where you are, even literally! In addition to traditional office sessions, we offer school-based & in-home telehealth services.

Wherever we meet, let’s find the answers. Rather than do things the typical way, BTB is systematically designed around your family’s needs. We not only believe that many things can impact a child’s functioning, we specialize in sifting through it all to make a blueprint that actually makes sense for you.

BTB is grounded in the belief that yes, you can utilize evidence-based practices (the “what works”) while still normalizing what makes your family unique (the “will this work for me”). Oh, we also practice knowing we’re all human and parenting is the hardest yet most rewarding job in the world. Therefore, you are not only an active and necessary contributor to our work together, you will always have access to our range of family supports as part of the BTB family.

What To Expect?

The Intake

Most families begin with an initial 50-minute intake appointment via telehealth. You will be asked to complete your intake packet online at least 48 hours before your session. The intake is an opportunity to meet the psychologist, share your concerns, ask questions, and provide any information or documentation you feel necessary to get to know your child, situation, and needs. Not sure what you need? That’s okay. The initial intake is intended to be an information gathering session from the comfort of your home, where you will get a feel for BTB, develop goals, and determine next steps. Parents are welcome to include their child during the initial intake as appropriate, but it is not required. By the end of the intake, you will leave with a clear plan for next steps and concrete, actionable goals. Developmental Screenings and Consultations may sometimes take the place of an initial intake appointment.

The Plan

During the initial intake appointment, a collaborative plan of action is created based upon your family needs. It’s time to put that plan into action! The plan will look different for every family. Our psychoeducational or diagnostic assessments are tailored to meet the individual needs of the client. This means, no one assessment is the same. BTB specializes in comprehensive, in-person assessments that help provide a blueprint of your child’s strengths, areas of concerns, and recommendations to aid in educational or treatment planning. No assessment needed? Our Behavioral Parent Training sessions help you learn specific tools, strategies, and intentional parenting practices to navigate challenging behavior. BTB also offers Child and Family Therapy & Executive Function Coaching/ADHD Training to improve self-regulation, interpersonal or behavioral challenges, or to aid in improved medical adherence or healthy habits.

The Follow Up

Your child participated in a comprehensive assessment. You feel confident in navigating challenging behavior and big emotions. Your child or adolescent’s social emotional functioning has improved. The parent/child interaction is more positive. After your time at BTB…. what now? The goal at BTB is for you to leave our time together feeling fulfilled and better equipped with the tools needed to support your family. With that being said, we’re all human and need additional support from time to time. Whether you need an advocate in your corner at your child’s IEP eligibility meeting, a parent booster session to tailor strategies to a new behavior, or a single consultation session to problem solve through a new life stage, BTB also has options for you without scheduling longer-term therapy.
